President's Report

Happy 1st day of summer in Chicago!

National APIC has just wrapped up for 2017 and provided a variety of interesting topics this year. Provided for you at the end of the newsletter will be some short summaries from the board members that attended this year’s event. Oregon was a cold 60 degrees & raining-but very conducive for a learning atmosphere. Mark your calendars for the upcoming National APIC Conference, Jun 13-15, 2018 Minnesota, Jun 12-14, 2019 Philadelphia and Jun 10-12, 2020 Arizona.

The APIC Fellows program recognizes exemplary APIC members with status as a Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC). Fellow of APIC status is a distinction of honor for infection preventionist who are not only advanced practitioners of infection prevention practice, but also leaders within the field.

Please join me in congratulating our chapter’s 2017 fellows of APIC (FAPIC), Marge Gribogiannis, Michael Vernon, Angie Rupp, Cathy Paulus, Teresa Chou & Linda Kusek

Thank to those that attend the spring event sponsored by 3M at Elmhurst Hospital, we had good attendance with a great networking opportunity.

I also wanted to give a special thank you to Mary Alice Lavin, who has been our Legislative representative for 10 years! We appreciate your commitment and dedication to keeping us informed of current legislation and supporting our chapter’s position through the years. Thank you for recruiting for us- please join me in welcoming Anjali Bisht (Northwest Community) who has volunteered to join as the new chapter legislative representative. Anjali email is abisht@NCH.ORG, if you have any questions for her. She has partnered with Mary Alice over the last few months and will continue to represent our chapter well moving forward.

Our education Director and Board members have been working hard to plan the October Fall event and have a great line up planned. Save the Date: Friday October 27th 8-4P(Times may change), again we are pleased to partner with Aramark and our generous vendor sponsors. (CEU’s will be available).

The website is coming along, and even better we have a new volunteer webmaster, Asra Salim, looking forward to expanding the capabilities of Star Chapter that we can all benefit from. Please continue to check for upcoming educational opportunities, webinars and co-sponsored events. The membership directory is active and available for Chicago APIC members. Pictures are being posted in the gallery section and don’t forget to “like” us on Facebook (APIC Chicago).

In closing, I wish you all an enjoyable summer, full of fun, relaxation and hopefully not too much work!

Linda
